Mark Zuckerberg, the billionaire founder and CEO of Meta Platforms, is reportedly assembling a dedicated team of specialists aimed at creating “artificial general intelligence” (AGI), which refers to machines with capabilities that could match or even exceed human intelligence, according to a report by Bloomberg News on Tuesday.
This initiative aligns with a substantial investment of more than $10 billion (approximately Rs. 85,563 crore) in Scale AI. The report suggests that Alexandr Wang, the founder of Scale AI, is anticipated to join the AGI team once the agreement finalizes.
While Reuters was unable to confirm Bloomberg’s report immediately, Meta has not responded to inquiries for comment during off-hours.
Zuckerberg’s push to personally recruit around 50 experts, including a new head for AI research within the AGI team, appears to stem from dissatisfaction with the performance and reception of Meta’s recent large language model, Llama 4, as noted by Bloomberg News.
In addition, the Wall Street Journal reported last month that Meta postponed the launch of its premier “Behemoth” AI model amid concerns regarding its capabilities.
Other competitors in the field, such as OpenAI, are also exploring strategies to attract further investment with the ambition of developing AGI.
