Microsoft has revealed that its upcoming Xbox exclusive, Gears of War: Reloaded, will be made available on multiple platforms. The remastered edition of the original game is scheduled for launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X on August 26, 2025. The updated version will boast support for 4K resolution, a performance rate of 120 frames per second, and cross-play capabilities across the different systems. Players can now add Gears of War: Reloaded to their wishlists via the Xbox and PlayStation stores and Steam.

The gaming giant described the remaster as the “definitive way” for both new players and veterans to experience Gears of War, coinciding with the franchise’s 20th anniversary in 2026.
Created by The Coalition in partnership with Sumo Digital and Disbelief, Gears of War: Reloaded will encompass all the content found in Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, the 2015 remaster of the iconic third-person shooter. This latest version, however, has been significantly enhanced for modern consoles, featuring improved visuals with support for 4K resolution, high frame rates (60fps in campaign mode and 120fps in multiplayer), upgraded audio, and refined textures.

Mike Crump, head of The Coalition, emphasized the appeal of Gears of War: Reloaded, stating, “This is a celebration of one of gaming’s most iconic franchises. With features like 4K resolution, 120 FPS support, and a fully realized multiplayer experience that includes cross-progression and cross-play, this is the ultimate way to engage with the game that started it all,” he shared in an announcement on Xbox Wire.
This remaster marks a significant moment for the Gears of War franchise, as it will be available on PlayStation for the very first time. This follows a trend of Microsoft first-party titles expanding to other platforms, with other franchises like Forza Horizon and Age of Empires already launching on PS5 following a shift in Xbox’s release strategy last year. Additional crossover titles include Bethesda’s Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which launched on PlayStation last month after its debut on Xbox Series S/X and PC in December 2024. Doom: The Dark Ages is also set to release simultaneously on PS5, PC, and Xbox later this month.
Furthermore, Gears of War: Reloaded will be offered through Xbox Cloud Gaming and Game Pass, along with support for Xbox Play Anywhere.
Microsoft has branded Gears of War: Reloaded as the “most complete version of the original game to date,” assuring players that purchasing the remaster will grant free access to all post-launch downloadable content, including a bonus campaign act, every multiplayer map and mode, as well as a full roster of beloved characters and cosmetic items.
The game will support a cooperative mode for two players in campaign and accommodate up to eight players in multiplayer, with cross-play and cross-progression across all platforms. Enhancements in Gears of War: Reloaded include 4K resolution, support for up to 120fps performance, HDR and VRR capability, spatial audio, upgraded assets and textures, improved post-processing, shadows, reflections, and an absence of loading screens during the campaign.
Gears of War: Reloaded is set to release on August 26 across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X, with pre-orders now open at a price of $39.99 across supported storefronts.
