The Xbox Games Showcase, aired on Sunday, delivered an abundance of new reveals, announcements, and updates regarding future gaming titles. Featured in the event were both first-party Microsoft games and unexpected entries from third-party developers. Among the highlights were the unveiling of the next installment in the Call of Duty franchise and the introduction of Xbox-branded handheld devices, the Asus ROG Ally. Other first-party titles showcased included Grounded 2, Clockwork Revolution, and Keeper, with additional trailers released for previously announced games such as The Outer Worlds 2 and Gears of War: Reloaded.

Among the third-party announcements, Atlus confirmed the long-anticipated remake of Persona 4, while Don’t Nod unveiled their new sci-fi adventure game, Aphelion. Notably, Game Freak, known for the Pokémon series, introduced an intriguing new game titled Beast of Reincarnation. Additionally, Asobo Studio announced a game set in the A Plague Tale universe that takes place 15 years prior to the events of A Plague Tale: Requiem. Below are the significant announcements from the showcase:

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Announced

The renowned developers Treyarch and Raven Software are set to release successive titles in the Black Ops series for the first time, following last year’s Black Ops 6. A teaser for Black Ops 7 was presented during the showcase, with the game taking place in 2035 and featuring David Mason from Black Ops 2 as the main character.

According to a post on Xbox Wire regarding the announcement, “The year is 2035 and the world is on the brink of chaos, ravaged by conflict and psychological warfare following the narrative events of Black Ops 2 and Black Ops 6.” The Black Ops team, under Mason’s leadership, must combat an adversary that exploits fear as a weapon.

Black Ops 7 promises a cooperative campaign along with its well-known multiplayer and zombie modes. A comprehensive reveal of the game is expected this summer.

Grounded 2 Announced

Alongside a focused presentation on The Outer Worlds 2, Obsidian Entertainment announced Grounded 2, the follow-up to 2022’s Grounded. Set in 1992, two years after the original, the game takes place at Brookhollow Park, featuring a starting zone that rivals the entire backyard map of its predecessor. Obsidian is collaborating with Eidos Montreal on this title.

The returning teenage characters from the original have matured and the sequel promises a more expansive and varied world, alongside new combat mechanics and bugs. Grounded 2 is scheduled for Game Preview availability on Xbox Series S/X, Xbox PC, and Xbox Cloud, as well as Early Access on Steam, starting from July 29, 2025. The game will also be accessible on day one through Xbox Game Pass.

Keeper Announced

Double Fine Productions, known for Psychonauts 2, revealed another first-party game called Keeper during the showcase. This third-person adventure game places players in the role of a walking lighthouse exploring a vibrant world. Players can manipulate their surroundings using a beam of light and will have a seabird companion to assist in solving puzzles.

The trailer showcased a colorful, psychedelic island environment threatened by a growing malevolent force. As the lighthouse, players will navigate toward the island’s center. Keeper is slated for release on Xbox Series S/X and PC on October 17, with day one availability on Game Pass.

Beast of Reincarnation Announced

Game Freak unveiled their new title, Beast of Reincarnation, at the showcase. This action-RPG is set in a post-apocalyptic Japan inhabited by wild beasts. Players assume the role of Emma, a cursed outcast accompanied by her dog Koo as they confront these beasts.

The trailer highlighted gigantic creatures and showcased action-combat similar to the Soulslike genre. Beast of Reincarnation is set to release next year on PC (via Steam and Xbox app), PS5, and Xbox Series S/X, with day one access on Game Pass.

Persona 4 Revival Announced

Shortly after voice actors confirmed the remake of Persona 4 was in development, Atlus officially announced Persona 4 Revival during the Xbox Games Showcase. The remake boasts enhanced visuals and several improvements. Players will revisit high school life in Inaba, a rural Japanese town grappling with a series of unsettling murders.

As a new transfer student, players will navigate the complexities of adolescence while uncovering the truth behind the crimes. Persona 4 Revival is slated for release on PC, Xbox Series S/X, and PS5, with day one accessibility on Game Pass. Wishlists are now open across supported platforms.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy

Asobo Studios announced Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, marking the third installment in the acclaimed series. This upcoming title will serve as an origin story, set 15 years before A Plague Tale: Requiem, and features a new protagonist named Sophia as she embarks on a journey to Minotaur’s Island to uncover the origins of the Macula curse.

With the promise of an evolved action-adventure format, Sophia will wield a sword in one hand and light in the other, hinting at alterations in combat. Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is expected to release in 2026 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X, and will also be available on Game Pass from day one.
