Elon Musk’s platform X has introduced a feature enabling users to opt out of having their posts and interactions contribute to the training of the AI chatbot Grok.
By default, the settings for X users permit their data to be utilized for the chatbot’s development. However, the company announced on Friday that “all X users have the ability to control whether their public posts can be used to train Grok, the AI search assistant.” This setting is currently available on the web and will soon be accessible on mobile devices.
Additionally, users can block their information from being accessed by the chatbot by switching their accounts to private.
Grok, which is part of the artificial intelligence startup xAI owned by Musk, was launched last November and is designed to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT. It has been trained using data from X and is currently available to premium subscribers.
Musk has expressed strong support for leveraging data from X to enhance Grok’s capabilities. The chatbot has already begun using posts from X to summarize news events and provide answers based on real-time information.
X representatives did not provide further comments on this development.
