Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025 is scheduled to commence on June 9, promising several significant software announcements throughout its five-day run. The company’s keynote address, slated for the opening day, traditionally showcases updates to its various operating systems, including those for the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and macOS. Last year’s conference was marked by a focus on AI functionalities branded as Apple Intelligence, which were gradually deployed over the following months.

Keynote Event Details for WWDC 2025

The WWDC 2025 keynote will begin at 10 AM PT, equating to 10:30 PM IST in India. Viewers will be able to stream the event via Apple’s YouTube channel, the Apple Developer app, the company’s official website, and the Apple TV app. As with previous conferences, recorded videos of the keynote and subsequent online sessions will be available for later viewing.

Anticipations for Apple’s Developer Conference

It is not expected that Apple will reveal new hardware at WWDC 2025, especially since the company recently updated a range of its devices. The next anticipated hardware launches are the iPhone 17 series and possibly new AirPods models, which are expected later in 2025. Instead, the emphasis during the conference will likely be on software developments.

Apple has yet to implement the upgraded AI-driven Siri introduced at WWDC 2024.

Apple Intelligence Updates

This year’s conference may feature some updates on Apple’s AI capabilities, although not to the extent seen in last year’s keynote. The company is still rolling out features related to Apple Intelligence, including an enhanced AI-powered Siri assistant that was promised during WWDC 2024. Reports from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman indicate that Apple is developing various AI tools, but their release appears to be postponed. An important announcement could involve expanding access to the company’s large language models (LLMs) for third-party developers to integrate AI functionalities into their own applications.

Changes in Software Versioning

Apple’s software numbering system may undergo changes this year, with plans to synchronize the versioning across all operating systems. This means updates for iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS 15, tvOS 18, watchOS 12, and visionOS 12 could collectively be released as iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26, tvOS 26, watchOS 26, and visionOS 26. If accurate, this shift would simplify version recognition for users across different Apple devices, aligning major software releases with the forthcoming year.

Major Overhaul for iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS 26 (macOS Tahoe)

Reports suggest that Apple plans to significantly redesign both iOS and iPadOS, marking the largest interface update since the introduction of iOS 7 in 2013. This redesign may take cues from visionOS, the operating system utilized by the Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset. Users can anticipate a more translucent interface with glass-like features and rounded app icons. Additionally, Apple’s built-in applications will likely receive user-friendly enhancements and visual updates. For instance, the Messages app might feature live translation capabilities, while the Apple Music app could showcase animated artwork on the Lock Screen. A redesign of the Shortcuts app is also expected, alongside the announcement of a new Gaming app.

Enhancements in watchOS 26, tvOS 26, and Additional Features

Reports indicate that visual updates will also be reflected in watchOS 26, including potential support for third-party widgets in the Control Centre, a feature already present in the latest iOS version.

On the tvOS 26 front, Apple might enhance its applications with a greater emphasis on content, incorporating some translucent design elements akin to those in iOS 26. Additionally, features such as head gesture support, Camera Control, and others could be introduced for the AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4. Visual modifications are also expected for CarPlay.
