WhatsApp for Android is poised to introduce a new feature for its artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, Meta AI, which will enhance user interaction through a chat memory function. According to recent findings from a feature tracker, this addition will allow users to instruct the AI to remember certain personal information. Once the chatbot retains this information, it can tailor its responses accordingly, offering a more customized experience for each user. Although the feature has been identified in the latest beta version of the app, it is not yet accessible to beta testers.
The feature tracker WABetaInfo reported that the enhancement aims to make Meta AI more personalized for users. The new functionality was located within WhatsApp for Android beta version 2.24.22.9. However, at this time, the feature remains hidden and is not available for those who are part of the Google Beta Programme.
The upcoming chat memory feature will enable users to request that Meta AI remember specific details about their preferences or personal data. Screenshots shared by the feature tracker illustrate how this functionality may operate, with a new option for Memory slated to be included on the Meta AI’s profile page. Users will be able to find this option by selecting the Meta AI title within the chat interface.
On the profile page, users will encounter a section labeled “What Meta AI remembers about you.” This feature will present a menu where saved information can be viewed at any time.
The tracker suggests that users can ask the AI to retain various kinds of information, such as dietary habits, profession, birthdays, and preferred communication styles. Once this information is recorded, the chatbot is expected to recall these details and respond accordingly; for example, a user who is vegan might receive suggestions exclusively for vegan recipes when asked.
Currently under development, the privacy and security protocols surrounding this new feature remain unclear. It is worth noting that a similar memory feature exists within OpenAI’s ChatGPT, allowing users to manage what information is saved or deleted. OpenAI asserts that any data stored in the AI’s memory is not utilized for training its large language models.
