WhatsApp for Android is reportedly set to introduce a revamped interface for its Meta AI feature. Recent leaks suggest that significant modifications are being made to enhance the user experience when interacting with the artificial intelligence chatbot. The anticipated new interface is expected to include an automatic voice mode along with prompt suggestions designed to assist users in initiating conversations. Currently, these features are in development and are not yet accessible to beta testers. Additionally, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently hinted at a major update for Meta AI slated for 2025.
According to WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo, efforts are underway to improve the overall experience of Meta AI for its users. The redesigned chatbot interface was identified in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.5.22. However, as it is still under development, users in the beta testing group are not able to explore these changes at this time.
According to screenshots shared by the feature tracker, users can now long press the Meta AI icon located at the bottom-right corner of their chat screen to access the new interface and activate the voice mode.
This redesigned Meta AI interface differs significantly from the current chat interface, as it features a prominent display of the chatbot logo along with the word “listening” prominently displayed beneath it. Users are invited to engage with the AI, either by speaking or asking questions. The status bar on Android devices will also show a green microphone icon to indicate that the microphone is active within this interface.
The feature tracker notes that users can easily switch to text mode by either tapping the microphone button or entering text in the provided field. During this interaction, Meta AI listens only while users remain in this specific interface. Exiting the window will effectively end the session. Additionally, the new interface is designed to provide prompt suggestions aimed at inspiring user interactions.
The rollout for this updated interface is expected in a forthcoming update; however, a specific timeline for its release remains unknown. Importantly, WhatsApp has yet to officially confirm the redesign of Meta AI.
