WhatsApp has begun the rollout of a new feature in its latest beta version for the web client, enabling users to search for messages by specific dates. This enhancement may prove useful for those attempting to locate messages without recalling specific keywords, but who have a rough timeframe in mind. Additionally, it will assist users in finding messages with non-text content, such as videos and voice notes, which typically cannot be searched for via standard text queries.
The feature was identified by WABetaInfo on WhatsApp Web Beta version 2.2348.50. A new calendar icon will be visible during the message search process on the web interface. Currently, this capability is accessible to a select group of users utilizing the beta version, and a broader rollout to all users may take some time. Gadgets 360 reported that testing this new feature on the latest beta version of WhatsApp Web was not feasible at this time.
Information from WABetaInfo indicates that the new date-based search feature will allow users to efficiently find messages according to the date they were sent or received. By clicking on the added icon, users can select a date from a calendar view. This selection will then display a list of messages exchanged on that date.
In addition to this feature, WhatsApp is also beta testing another function for its iOS and Android applications that involves email verification. Users will soon have the option to verify their email addresses within the app, which will serve as an alternative method for logging into the messaging service. This could be particularly beneficial in situations where cellular service is unavailable, and users cannot receive a login OTP.
Furthermore, the messaging platform is working on a feature that enables users to share polls in channels. This feature is expected to function differently from polls in group chats, as votes will remain anonymous, in line with the company’s commitment to enhancing user privacy.
