WhatsApp has announced the release of a new update for its iOS users that introduces subtle changes to the interface and enhances the video calling features. The update was launched on Monday and is being rolled out globally to all iPhone users. Interested users can download the update from the App Store by searching for WhatsApp. The refreshed version includes new green buttons and updated interface elements.
The updated version of WhatsApp for iOS now carries the build number 24.9.74. This version is compatible with all supported iPhone models and will be available as it becomes accessible in phased batches. As a result, some users might experience a slight delay in obtaining the update, but WhatsApp assures that the new features will be available to everyone over the coming weeks.
Among the notable changes, the update introduces green-colored buttons and notification icons for all iOS users. This feature was initially tested last month, with a similar rollout to many Android users occurring in recent weeks. After this update, users will see the new message button, icons for new groups, contacts, and communities appearing in vibrant green. Notifications for unread messages, along with the corresponding count next to the chat list, will also feature the new green design. While green was previously used as the default color for the night mode theme, this update brightens the hue and applies it to those utilizing the app in light mode.
In addition, WhatsApp is implementing a refreshed design for icons throughout the app. Users may recognize these redesigned icons from a previous beta version, and they are now being made available to all users. This redesign aims to provide a consistent look for icons across WhatsApp’s Android, iOS, and web interfaces.
Lastly, the update enhances audio support for the screen-sharing feature during video calls. Previously, participants could only hear audio captured through the microphone when a user shared their screen. Now, both device audio and microphone audio will be heard together, similar to a feature recently introduced on the Android platform.
