WhatsApp has rolled out a new feature allowing users to categorize specific groups and individual chats as favorites for easier access. This functionality is found within a tab on the chat filters bar, alongside options such as ‘unread’, ‘groups’, and ‘all’. Recently, the company announced it will introduce a Custom Lists feature that enables users to create and manage personalized lists of contacts for enhanced navigation. Similar to the favorites feature, these lists can include both group chats and direct messages.
WhatsApp Custom Lists
In a blog post released on Thursday, WhatsApp announced the global rollout of the Custom Lists feature. Over the next few weeks, all users will gain access to this option, helping them organize contacts into categories such as family, work, neighborhood, and others. Both group chats and one-on-one conversations can be incorporated into these lists.
To create a custom list, users will need to select the “+” icon located on the filter tab. After naming the list, they can add any number of groups or contacts they wish to include. The newly created lists will appear alongside the existing All, Unread, and Groups filters.
This update is anticipated to simplify messaging for users on the platform. Additionally, WhatsApp users have the option to modify these lists at any time. To change an existing list, users can long-press its name on the filter bar.
In other developments, reports indicate that WhatsApp is also experimenting with a new stickers feature. According to the feature tracker WABetaInfo, the app is testing options that would allow users to create custom sticker packs. This includes functionalities like Add to sticker pack, Add to Favourites, and Edit sticker. Furthermore, the Meta-owned messaging platform is said to be developing Snapchat-like camera effects, encompassing filters, backgrounds, and other enhancements that can be managed through the app’s Privacy settings.
