WhatsApp is introducing a new feature that empowers users to create personalized chat wallpapers through artificial intelligence (AI). Following the latest update for WhatsApp on iOS, users can generate custom chat backgrounds utilizing prompts and make adjustments before applying them as their chat wallpaper. This innovative function, powered by Meta AI, is currently available to beta testers on WhatsApp for Android as well. Additionally, the platform is developing more features, including a new way to view message replies in a structured thread format.
Understanding WhatsApp’s AI-Driven Chat Wallpaper Feature
After updating to the latest version of WhatsApp for iOS, version 25.19.75, users may find a new Create with AI option within the Settings menu, navigating through Chats and Default chat theme to Chat theme. This feature, discovered by the feature tracker WABetaInfo, is being gradually rolled out to users on the stable update channel. Though staff at Gadgets 360 could not access the feature in the latest stable update, it was successfully tested using a recent beta version of WhatsApp for Android.
Once the Create with AI feature is accessible, users can begin by selecting this option, which opens a pop-up that includes a text field for entering their prompt into the image generator. After a short wait, Meta AI will showcase various AI-generated images that users can browse by swiping through the previews at the bottom of the screen.
For users wishing to refine their creations, there is a Make changes button which allows for the regeneration of the wallpaper based on the initial prompt. Once users select their preferred design, WhatsApp facilitates further adjustments, including repositioning the image and modifying the brightness for dark mode before confirming with the Set button.
In a test conducted by Gadgets 360 on WhatsApp for Android beta version 2.25.207, the AI generator performed as described by WABetaInfo, creating images aligned with user prompts. However, it occasionally overlooked specific requests regarding color schemes or element inclusion.
WhatsApp Exploring Threaded Message Replies
WhatsApp is also reportedly developing a feature aimed at displaying message replies in a structured thread format. This functionality, still in the works, promises to enhance user experience when following conversations, making it easier to keep track of responses.
Expected to become available to beta testers on both WhatsApp for iOS and Android, this feature is currently under development, according to the feature tracker. With similar capabilities already present in apps like iMessage, the threaded reply functionality could soon be implemented in WhatsApp with an upcoming update.
