WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is introducing a fresh collection of emojis aimed at enhancing user communication. The platform has begun the rollout of Unicode 15.0 emojis to a select group of beta testers, with the latest update reportedly adding 21 new emojis to the app’s beta version for Android.
The update is part of WhatsApp beta version 2.23.5.13, now accessible on the Google Play Store. Users eligible for the beta can install this update to explore the new emoji pack. Alongside the new emojis, the application has been working on a feature that allows users to mute calls from unknown numbers.
A report from WABetaInfo highlights the introduction of Unicode 15.0 emojis in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android. According to the report, a screengrab shared by the development tracker shows that users can send these 21 new emojis directly from the official WhatsApp keyboard. Currently, this feature is limited to certain beta testers.
Users interested in accessing these new emojis can download the latest beta update from the Google Play Store, with wider availability expected in the upcoming days.
In addition to the emoji update, WhatsApp is also developing a feature designed to allow users to silence incoming calls from unknown numbers. This functionality is present in the latest beta for Android. Once implemented, a setting labeled ‘Silence unknown callers’ will be visible in the app’s menu. Users will need to activate this setting to mute calls from numbers not saved in their contacts.
This new feature aims to reduce unwanted spam and scam calls. However, users will still be able to see calls from unknown numbers, which will be listed in the call log and notifications, allowing them the option to return the call if desired.
