WhatsApp is preparing to introduce a two-way voice chat feature for its in-app artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, Meta AI, specifically for Android users. A recent report indicates that this voice mode will offer users a selection of voices from public figures, enhancing the customization options when interacting with the chatbot. Furthermore, voices from both the United States and the United Kingdom are anticipated to be included in this feature, designed to facilitate more lifelike conversations.
The insights regarding the public figure voices were detailed in a post by WABetaInfo, a tracker specializing in WhatsApp features. Currently, the new voice mode is not yet visible to users, including those enrolled in the Google Beta Programme.
A screenshot released by the feature tracker illustrates WhatsApp’s intentions to introduce various voices for the Meta AI. These voices are expected to feature distinct pitches, tonalities, and accents, promising a personalized user experience. This enhancement is likely to resemble the Voice Mode currently available with ChatGPT, which provides users with four different voice options.
According to WABetaInfo, there are three anticipated voices with UK accents and two with US accents, although specific details regarding their gender, pitch, or regional nuances have not been disclosed. Notably, the report suggests the inclusion of four distinct voices that may belong to public figures, potentially encompassing influencers or celebrities.
This initiative aligns with Meta’s previous efforts, as last year the company rolled out a variety of custom AI chatbots on Messenger, each reflecting the distinct personalities of various celebrities and notable figures. The new voice feature is expected to expand upon this concept, possibly integrating the AI characters with individual voices.
Additionally, the interface for the Meta AI Voice Mode on WhatsApp was revealed in an earlier report. Once users enable the feature, it will reportedly display a bottom sheet titled “Meta AI,” featuring a blue ring icon centrally positioned for easy access.
