WhatsApp is enhancing the user experience by introducing a feature designed to help individuals manage unwanted calls. The popular messaging app, owned by Meta, now provides users with the option to silence calls from unknown contacts, which includes numbers not saved in their contact lists. This new feature was announced last week and is currently available on the stable versions of WhatsApp for both Android and iOS devices. Users will still be informed of any missed calls from these unknown numbers.
Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, shared details about this functionality in an announcement last week. With the updated feature, users can avoid interruptions, as calls from unknown numbers will not ring through.
Although users will still receive notifications or indications of missed calls, silencing these incoming calls can provide a more peaceful experience. To enable this feature, users can follow these simple steps:
1. Launch WhatsApp on your smartphone
2. Navigate to ‘Settings’ and select ‘Privacy’
3. Within the ‘Privacy’ section, find and choose the ‘Calls’ tab
4. Toggle on ‘Silence Unknown Calls’
Android users can access ‘Settings’ via the three-dot menu, while iPhone users should select the gear icon to find the same menu.
If users decide they’d rather receive calls from unknown numbers again, they can easily disable the ‘Silence Unknown Calls’ feature. Alternatively, individuals can consider saving important unknown numbers to their contact list to ensure they don’t miss critical calls.
