WhatsApp has rolled out a new feature for iOS users, enabling them to create events directly within group chats. Initially identified in a beta version of the Android app by feature trackers, this functionality is now available in the stable release for iPhone users. The introduction of event creation follows several other enhancements in development, including a shortcut for quick replies to video notes and an in-app dialer for the Calls tab.
Events in Group Chats
The new Event feature was highlighted by WABetaInfo in WhatsApp iOS app version 24.13.72. Before this update, event creation was restricted to Communities, allowing members to plan activities like online meetings.
This new functionality is now accessible in group chats as well. By tapping the “+” icon, users can access the activity menu, which includes the Event option. Here, they can designate an event name, provide a description, determine the start time, and specify a location if needed. Additionally, users can enable the WhatsApp call link feature, allowing for a WhatsApp call to initiate at the time of the event.
This feature is available to all users of WhatsApp for iOS. Staff members at Gadgets 360 confirmed the feature’s accessibility after updating to the app’s latest version. New functionalities are typically distributed gradually, meaning it may take several days for all users to receive the update.
Multiple AI Chatbots
In recent developments, WhatsApp has expanded its Meta AI chatbot capabilities to include regions like India. Reports indicate that select users may soon choose between two AI models: Llama 3-70B and Llama 3-405B. The Llama 3-70B model is designed for quick responses, while the Llama 3-405B is noted for being Meta’s largest model within its family of large language models, boasting 400 billion parameters.
However, the Llama 3-405B AI model has not been publicly launched yet. This feature was detected in WhatsApp’s Android beta version 2.24.14.7, available through a new Meta Llama model menu in the app’s settings.
