WhatsApp Channels has been launched in 150 countries, including India, since its introduction in September this year. These channels function similarly to Instagram Broadcasts, enabling certain users to communicate updates to a large audience of WhatsApp users. Communication is limited to Channel owners, who can send messages, while other users can only respond to these messages. Users can find channels created by celebrities, businesses, or content creators through a directory. It has been reported that Channels will also feature access to WhatsApp stickers.
A recent report by WABetaInfo indicates that WhatsApp is deploying a new beta update that allows Channel administrators to share stickers with their followers. The feature, currently available to select beta testers, includes the option to send both static and animated stickers. A screenshot illustrating this new capability was included in the report, which suggests that broader access for additional users will follow shortly.
To determine whether the sticker-sharing feature is accessible, users should ensure their WhatsApp beta version is the latest. By navigating to their Channel tab and opening the keyboard, they can check for the presence of the Stickers option alongside the emoji keyboard. According to the report, this feature is expected to expand to more beta testers in the coming weeks, although an article from Indian Express claims that all WhatsApp Channels users may already have access.
In just seven weeks since its debut, WhatsApp Channels has reportedly amassed 500 million monthly active users, as noted by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg in an official Channels message. Users can find WhatsApp Channels in the Updates tab of their iOS and Android devices, alongside regular WhatsApp Status updates.
It is important to note that messages shared in WhatsApp Channels do not have end-to-end encryption. Only Channel owners can post updates, while followers can react to these messages. All channel messages are visible only for a duration of 30 days from the date of posting.
