The Washington Post has partnered with OpenAI in a move designed to enhance access to quality news via ChatGPT. This collaboration is outlined in a recent press release from The Washington Post.

OpenAI’s initiatives include partnerships with over 20 additional news organizations, such as News Corp, the parent company of Business Insider, The Associated Press, Axel Springer, Condé Nast, the Financial Times, Future, and Hearst. Vox Media, the publisher behind Technology News, is also among its partners.

With the new partnership, ChatGPT will be able to provide summaries, quotes, and direct links to original reporting from The Washington Post when users pose relevant questions. The outlet emphasizes that its journalism covering various sectors, including politics, global affairs, business, and technology, will be featured prominently, complete with proper attribution and links to full articles for deeper exploration.

Peter Elkins-Williams, who leads global partnerships for The Washington Post, expressed that making their impactful reporting accessible to ChatGPT users aligns with their mission to provide news in a manner that meets audience expectations for access and convenience.

Varun Shetty, OpenAI’s head of media partnerships, commented in the release that ChatGPT serves over 500 million users each week, providing responses to a wide range of inquiries. The platform surpassed 400 million weekly active users in February.
