Telegram has rolled out a significant update aimed at enhancing its video and chat functionalities. This new version introduces advanced video speed controls, improves video quality, and offers quicker loading times based on the user’s network connection. Additionally, users can now insert media when editing previously sent messages, and the app will show the last time a message was modified during a chat. Developers are gaining access to new monetization options within the platform as well.
New Features Enhance Video Playback
With the latest app upgrade, Telegram announced that users can adjust video playback speed. By holding down on the right side of the video and sliding right, users can speed up playback to a maximum of 2.5 times. This change streamlines the existing video speed controls, while Android users can also skip back or forward 10 seconds by tapping on the left or right side of the screen respectively.
For administrators of larger channels, Telegram has enhanced video playback capabilities by automatically selecting video quality based on connection stability. The platform will compress and optimize high-resolution videos, providing three different quality settings: low, medium, and high. iOS users also have the option to swipe up on videos to activate picture-in-picture (PiP) mode.
Refinements in Message Editing and Hashtags
In this update, Telegram has expanded the message editing features. Users can now attach media to a text message while editing, allowing for an image to replace the initial message. This functionality enhances the user experience in the latest app version.
Moreover, when a user edits a message, the app will display the timestamp of the last edit. Should a user choose to make further modifications, the app will indicate the time of the latest revision. In addition, small group chats have been updated to include read receipts for each member, a feature also present in competing applications like WhatsApp.
Telegram has unveiled chat-specific hashtags to streamline the process of locating tagged messages within specific groups or channels. These hashtags follow the #hashtag@username
format. For example, searching for #travel@adventures would display all messages related to travel shared by the Adventures channel, simplifying searches for particular posts within a group or channel.
Enhanced Bot Functionality and Advertising Options
Telegram’s popularity can be attributed in part to its support for customizable bots within groups. Bots are now able to send up to 30 messages per second, with the option for operators to increase that limit to a whopping 1,000 messages per second using Telegram Stars, the platform’s digital currency, at a cost of 0.1 Stars per message.
In addition, bots on Telegram can generate revenue through Telegram Ads, presenting an opportunity for channel monetization. The platform shares 50% of the ad revenue with content creators, and bot developers can now also participate in this revenue-sharing program.
