Tecno is reportedly set to unveil a new tri-fold smartphone, which is anticipated to be distinct from the Phantom Ultimate 2 model that was presented last year. In contrast to the Phantom Ultimate 2, which has one panel folding inward and another folding outward, the forthcoming Tecno device is designed to have both panels folding inward. Dubbed the Phantom Ultimate G Fold, this new concept smartphone is also expected to feature a folding mechanism that resembles that of the rumored Samsung Galaxy G Fold.
Tecno Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept Phone Launch and Design Expectations
According to a report from 9to5Google, the Tecno Phantom Ultimate G Fold is anticipated to be revealed in mid-July. This unveiling is expected to take place shortly after Samsung is likely to launch its own Galaxy G Fold tri-fold smartphone alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 on July 9.
In addition, tipster PhoneArt (@UniverseIce) has posted leaked hands-on images of the Tecno Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept. These images illustrate the unique inward folding design of the device, which significantly differs from Tecno’s previous tri-fold concept that featured one panel folding inward and the other outwards.
Last year, just before Huawei unveiled its tri-fold phone, Tecno showcased its own tri-fold concept design to the world. This year, Tecno continues to push boundaries by revealing the TECNO PHANTOM Ultimate G Fold Concept ahead of Samsung Unpacked. Yes, this is an inward-folding… pic.twitter.com/AdHJTcGYo8

The Tecno Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept features a silver matte frame and a horizontally aligned outward-facing camera module, evoking design elements found in the Pixel 9 series. When fully unfolded, the device appears to be relatively slim, though it resembles older generation foldables in terms of thickness when folded.
The timing of the rumored unveiling of the Tecno Phantom Ultimate G Fold is particularly intriguing. If the timeline holds true, it will coincide with Samsung’s anticipated launch of the Galaxy G Fold. However, since the Tecno smartphone is outlined as a concept, it will not be aiming to capture market share from Samsung’s tri-fold offerings at this stage.
Notably, the introduction of the Tecno Phantom Ultimate 2 tri-fold smartphone concept coincided with the launch of the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design handset in China. The Huawei tri-fold smartphone was later made available in select global markets and currently remains the only commercially available tri-fold smartphone.
Concept smartphones primarily serve to demonstrate a company’s technological prowess and potential innovations. Thus, the Phantom Ultimate G Fold may signify Tecno’s intention to maintain its competitive edge within a rapidly changing market landscape.
