Tecno announced the launch of its latest operating system, HiOS 15, which is built on the Android 15 platform. The company highlighted a range of new artificial intelligence (AI) features specifically designed to cater to the needs of Indian users. In collaboration with the Indian AI firm Sarvam AI, Tecno has enhanced its Ella voice assistant to include vernacular speech options. Additionally, the update will introduce a feature for real-time translation, transcription, and summarization of phone calls, although Tecno has yet to disclose the rollout date or which devices will be eligible for the HiOS 15 update.
New AI Features Coming with HiOS 15
The Chinese smartphone manufacturer provided insights into the new functionalities that HiOS 15 will offer. Some of these capabilities were initially presented at the Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin last year. Tecno described its new AI features as “practical, user-friendly tools that deliver real value in everyday life.”
A key highlight of this operating system update is the improved Ella voice assistant, which now supports responses in Hindi. Tecno plans to add additional language support later in the year, including Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, and Tamil. To further enhance user interaction, the assistant will incorporate Gemini technology to bolster conversational abilities.
In terms of calling functionality, Tecno is introducing several innovative AI features. The AI Call Assistant will enable real-time translations, transcriptions, and summaries for phone calls, including those made through WhatsApp. Another feature, AI Auto Answer, will automatically respond to calls when users are unavailable and provide summaries of those calls. Additionally, the AI Voiceprint Noise Suppression feature aims to minimize background noise during conversations.
Furthermore, Tecno is rolling out an AI Writing & Document Assistant capable of summarizing, rewriting, or expanding text, along with converting handwritten notes into editable Word or PDF formats. The AI Screen Awareness tool will offer contextual support related to on-screen content.
For photography and image editing, HiOS 15 will feature three new AI tools. The upgraded AI Eraser 2.0 & Image Extender will allow users to remove unwanted objects from photos and expand images based on voice commands. A new AI Wallpaper Generator will create custom wallpapers from text prompts and sketches. Additionally, AI Sharpness Plus will provide on-device sharpening for blurry photos.
In addition to its AI advancements, Tecno is implementing a privacy-oriented feature named Smart Privacy with AI Blurring, which autonomously identifies and obscures private information in screenshots prior to sharing.
Alongside the AI capabilities, HiOS 15 will offer system-wide picture-in-picture (PiP) support, a redesigned dropdown control panel, updated transition animations, new wallpapers, minimalist icons, and enhanced optimizations.
