Rockstar Games has unexpectedly rolled out a new update for Red Dead Online, introducing fresh missions, rewards, and assorted content to the experience. Titled “Strange Tales of the West,” this update features four new Telegram missions available at any post office or the lockbox at the player’s camp, each centered around a unique theme. Notably, one mission draws heavy inspiration from the Undead Nightmare expansion of Red Dead Redemption. The update is now accessible for players on both PC and consoles.
New Missions Arrive in Red Dead Online
This update has caught many players off-guard, especially since Rockstar had ceased major updates for the game during 2022. The “Strange Tales of the West” update introduces players to four Telegram missions that delve into bizarre and unexplained phenomena.
The first mission, “Strange Tales of the Plague,” revisits the Undead Nightmare concept, featuring a zombie-themed storyline. This mission revolves around a mysterious plague in Armadillo that transforms individuals into undead beings. According to Rockstar’s official description, players will undertake the task of recovering several infected corpses for scientific analysis while fending off a nearby cult intent on obstructing them.
Furthermore, the update presents a science fiction-themed mission called “Strange Tales of Modern Science,” which sends players to Brathwaite Manor to confront a robotic adversary. “Strange Tales of the Bayou” leads players into the eerie swamps of Lagras to investigate mysterious happenings, while “Strange Tales of the Wilderness” has players searching for a missing scientist in the Tall Trees area.
Players will also discover an array of rewards, including additional gold, experience points, and in-game currency (RDO$) for completing the Telegram missions and participating in other activities.
Moreover, those who engage with Red Dead Online this month will receive the Rebellion Poncho, in addition to other incentives. The update incorporates a new outfit that is community-driven.
The introduction of substantial content like this is uncommon, given that Rockstar halted significant updates for Red Dead Online last year. This latest release has ignited speculation surrounding a potential next-gen patch for Red Dead Redemption 2.
In May, Gamereactor, referencing sources linked to Rockstar Games, indicated that a potential Switch 2 port for Red Dead Redemption 2 might launch later this year, alongside a next-gen patch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X. However, Rockstar has not yet confirmed or provided any hints regarding a next-gen update for Red Dead Redemption 2.
The game was first released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2018, followed by a PC debut the next year. Currently, Red Dead Redemption 2 lacks a dedicated application for current-generation consoles and is limited to 30 frames per second on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X.
