Korean developer Shift Up has revealed its intentions to potentially launch a PC version of its action-adventure game, Stellar Blade, in 2025. This announcement was made during the company’s latest financial earnings report on Tuesday. Since its exclusive release on PS5 in April, Stellar Blade has sold over a million copies by June. However, the developer noted a decline in sales during the third quarter, despite reporting an operating profit of KRW 36 billion (approximately Rs. 216 crore).
Stellar Blade PC Launch Planned for 2025
In the company’s Q&A session during the Q3 FY 2024 earnings call, Shift Up emphasized its commitment to expanding Stellar Blade to additional platforms, expressing optimism about its commercial performance on PC. “We are considering a release within 2025. With Steam’s growing market share in the AAA game sector and the global success of titles like Black Myth: Wukong, we anticipate that the PC version will outperform its console counterpart,” the studio stated.
Shift Up also shared insights regarding the ongoing popularity of its debut title, stating that efforts would be made to sustain interest until the anticipated PC launch. “Following its release as a PS5 exclusive in April, sales remained stable throughout the third quarter. We have been actively releasing content patches and updates to enhance the IP’s value and maintain momentum,” the company explained. “With the addition of the Nier: Automata DLC and various marketing initiatives, we aim to keep the IP vibrant leading up to the expansion.”
This week, the developer announced an upcoming update for Stellar Blade set to be rolled out later this month. This update will introduce special items from Nier: Automata, as well as a highly anticipated photo mode.
Additionally, the update will bring new costumes, lip-sync support for multiple languages, and various minor gameplay enhancements. PS5 users can expect to receive the update on November 20.
In June, Shift Up confirmed that Stellar Blade had surpassed one million sales on PS5 and mentioned it was evaluating the feasibility of a PC port. “While the game launched as a PS5 exclusive, the levels of PS5 distribution and activation were not as high as those for the PS4,” CFO Ahn Jae-woo reportedly remarked at the time. “Currently, the main audience for AAA games has shifted to PCs. We are considering the PC version of Stellar Blade, and we believe releasing it could significantly enhance the IP’s value.”
Stellar Blade debuted on April 26, exclusively for PS5. The narrative follows Eve, a super soldier tasked with rescuing an Earth overrun by monsters. In our review, we highlighted the game’s “fun combat and slick presentation,” though we noted that it faced challenges in several other areas.
