Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is set to return for its much-anticipated third season next month.

Following a brief teaser released in April, fans of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds have been eager for more updates on the upcoming third season, which is scheduled to premiere next month. Paramount+ has now unveiled the official trailer for the series.

(Spoiler alert for Season 2)

The second season concluded with the U.S.S. Enterprise facing an intense attack from the Gorn, who were launching an assault on one of the Federation’s colony worlds. The Enterprise crew members faced a precarious situation, with some being taken captive during the onslaught. Captain Pike (Anson Mount) was confronted with a critical decision: to adhere to orders and retreat or to defy them and attempt a rescue. Footage presented at last October’s New York City Comic-Con continued where the finale left off, depicting an adrenaline-fueled battle against a formidable adversary—an iconic element of the Star Trek legacy. (Pike chose to pursue the rescue mission, as expected.)

The official synopsis for Season 3 indicates that when viewers reconnect with the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise, led by Captain Pike, they will be witnessing the aftermath of the intense Gorn encounter from Season 2. However, the crew will also be venturing into new territories and encountering diverse civilizations, including an antagonist that will challenge their strength and determination. This season promises an innovative take on the classic Star Trek formula, introducing beloved characters alongside new ones and embarking on thrilling adventures that encompass elements of faith, duty, romance, humor, and mystery, along with genre expansions never previously explored in the franchise.

The season will see the return of main and recurring cast members, with Cillian O’Sullivan joining in a recurring role as Dr. Roger Korby, a character with historical significance originally portrayed by Michael Strong. Dr. Korby is a notable archaeologist in medical archaeology and the long-lost fiancé of Nurse Chapel. His unexpected return in Season 3 is likely to complicate matters for Nurse Chapel (Jess Bush), who is currently engaged in a romantic relationship with Spock (Ethan Peck). Additionally, Rhys Darby and Patton Oswalt are set to guest star.

The earlier teaser from April highlighted the diverse genres featured in the new episodes, while the full trailer amplifies the camaraderie among the crew, showcasing emerging romances, thrilling space escapades, and possibly a volatile scientific experiment. Notably, audiences will see Kirk (Paul Wesley) briefly assume command of the Enterprise, with Pike advising, “The choices you make in that chair, they are yours to make and yours to live with.” The trailer concludes on a lighter note, featuring Spock teaching Oswalt’s Vulcan character how to execute a “high five.” The comic exchange ends with Spock cleverly pulling away when his partner reaches for the low five, leading to a puzzled question, “Why would you do that?” with Spock simply responding, “Because you are too slow.”

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will make its debut for the third season on July 17, 2025, exclusively on Paramount+. New episodes are set to release every Thursday until September 11, 2025. The series has already secured a renewal for a fourth season.
