The feature is being made available in beta to select Premium users and allows individuals to create seamless transitions between tracks. Users can either let the app automatically blend tracks or take a hands-on approach by adjusting volume, EQ, and effect curves while analyzing waveform and beat data.
This functionality enables listeners to connect songs fluidly, instead of experiencing abrupt halts between tracks. It serves as a user-friendly introduction to audio mixing techniques, which can later transition into more complex software programs like Apple Logic Pro, Reaper, or Audacity. Whether for personal enjoyment or to elevate the experience at social events, this feature promises to enhance the way users engage with their playlists.
Spotify has also highlighted that Premium users can collaborate with one another to craft mixed playlists. However, details regarding the broader rollout of this feature remain unclear, including which specific Premium accounts have access to it during the beta phase. Users are advised to keep their apps updated, although some have reported not seeing the feature available in their accounts—for instance, Premium users on iOS in the UK have noted its absence. Spotify has been approached for clarification on availability.
For those Premium users who are enabled to use the Mix feature, it can be found in the toolbar of their custom playlists. The interface includes an “Auto” option for quick transitions, alongside preset styles such as “Fade” and “Rise” for easy application of different transition techniques. Users can save their custom transitions and decide whether to listen to the mixed version or revert to the original by toggling the “Mix” button.
