Snapchat is set to enhance user engagement through a series of new features aimed at improving interactions on the platform. These updates include several artificial intelligence (AI)-driven functionalities, which are being introduced incrementally. Some features will be exclusive to Snapchat+ subscribers, while others will be available more broadly. Among the noteworthy additions are Editable Chats, Emoji Reactions, My AI Reminders, and an AI-based tool to create custom outfits for Bitmoji avatars, among others.
New Features on Snapchat
The company shared details about these features in a newsroom post. In their announcement, Snapchat emphasized the platform’s role in visual communication, stating, “Every day, Snapchatters create more than 5 billion Snaps on average to communicate visually with their friends. Now, we’re adding new features to help Snapchatters connect even more quickly, express themselves in new ways, and use My AI to stay organized amid busy lives and schedules.”
One significant addition is the Editable Chats feature, which enables users to modify their sent messages within a five-minute window. This feature draws inspiration from similar tools available on platforms like WhatsApp. Currently, it is limited to Snapchat+ subscribers, though there are plans to potentially roll it out to all users in the future.
The Emoji Reactions feature represents another enhancement, allowing users to respond to messages with a wider range of emojis, moving beyond the previous limitation of Bitmoji-only reactions. Additionally, the My AI Reminders feature will facilitate users in setting reminders through quick messages to My AI, including details such as the event name, date, and time. Following the message, My AI will initiate an in-app countdown and notify users once the time has elapsed. An upgrade to the Snap Map will also allow users to express reactions to others on the map using emojis.
Moreover, two new AI-based features are on the horizon. The first is a Bitmoji outfit generator powered by AI, where users can describe their desired outfit, prompting the AI to produce various garment options with distinct patterns, colors, and designs. The second is the recently introduced ‘90s AI Lens, an AI-driven filter that automatically applies nostalgic effects to images taken through the app, evoking the iconic aesthetics of the 1990s.
