Signal has rolled out an update that introduces a variety of features aimed at enhancing the group calling experience on its platform. The latest iteration of Signal for Android, iOS, and desktop users now includes the Call Links feature, which enables users to initiate group calls with multiple participants without the need to create a separate group chat. Additional enhancements in this update comprise a “raise hand” button, emoji reactions, and a dedicated calls tab within the app.
How Call Links Feature Works in Signal
Upon updating to the newest version of Signal, users on Android, iOS, and Signal Desktop can generate a call link suitable for sharing with any contact on the platform. This function is structured for convenience, similar to the process of joining a Google Meet or Microsoft Teams meeting via a URL.
In the past, the process of starting a group call required users to create a group chat and manually add each participant. With the new Call Links, users can now easily share the link with up to 50 participants directly from their contacts. This simplifies the process of gathering multiple users for a call.
Recognized for its emphasis on user privacy, Signal includes features for managing call participation. The Require Admin Approval setting allows the call creator to pre-approve each participant who attempts to join, enhancing control over the call environment.
Additional Features: Raise Hand Button and Emoji Reactions
The update also introduces a Raise Hand button, paralleling similar functionalities on platforms like Microsoft Teams and Google Meet. This feature will enable users to signal their intention to speak during calls, with a visible list of participants who have raised their hands displayed in the app.
Moreover, emoji reactions, a favored element in many video collaboration platforms, are now available on Signal across Android, iOS, and desktop versions. The app has introduced a new Calls tab located at the bottom of the screen, which allows users to access their call history and manage their call links more efficiently. The latest update also includes enhancements to the in-call user interface, featuring new control buttons for a smoother calling experience.
