Signal has launched an update bringing several new features aimed at enhancing group call functionality across its platform. The updated version, available on Android, iOS, and desktop, introduces a new Call Links feature that enables users to initiate group calls with multiple participants without needing to create a separate group chat.

New Call Links Feature Explained

With the latest update to Signal on Android, iOS, and Signal Desktop, users are now able to generate a call link that can be shared with any contact on Signal. This feature is designed to function smoothly, resembling the process of joining a meeting via URLs on platforms like Google Meet or Microsoft Teams.

Previously, initiating a group call required creating a group chat and adding participants individually. Now, users can easily send the call link to multiple contacts simultaneously. Currently, Signal supports up to 50 participants for group calls. The feature also includes settings that allow the call creator to manage access — when the Require Admin Approval option is activated, each participant must receive approval from the call organizer to join.

Additional Features: Raise Hand Button, Emoji Reactions, and More

In this update, Signal has also introduced a Raise Hand button, mirroring features found in collaboration platforms such as Microsoft Teams and Google Meet. This functionality allows participants to signal when they would like to speak, and a list of those who have raised their hands will be displayed during calls.

Moreover, the addition of emoji reactions enhances the interaction experience on the platform, similar to what users may find in other video conferencing applications. The update includes a new Calls tab located at the bottom of the screen, providing easy access to call history and management of call links. Users can also expect improved in-call user interface elements, including new call control buttons.
