The teaser for the upcoming second season of Netflix’s live-action adaptation of One Piece, titled Into the Grand Line, has just been released. Along with the teaser, the platform shared new images and confirmed that the show has already been greenlit for a third season.
(Note: Spoilers for Season 1 are included below.)
Originally launched in 1997, the One Piece manga chronicles the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his eclectic crew, the Straw Hat Pirates. This includes skilled swordsman Roronoa Zoro, savvy navigator Nami, the crafty sniper Usopp, and the talented chef Sanji. The crew’s quest centers around finding the One Piece, a legendary treasure that promises the title of King of the Pirates to its possessor. While Luffy aims to claim this title for himself, he isn’t the only pirate with aspirations of becoming the king.
An anime series based on the manga began airing in 1999 and quickly garnered global fame, becoming the most-viewed TV show of 2022, surpassing even the popular series Stranger Things. This success prompted Netflix to create a live-action version, which has been praised for its adherence to the original material. Iñaki Godoy stars as Luffy, whose rubber-like abilities stem from consuming a Devil Fruit. Other cast members include Mackenyu as Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Taz Skylar as Sanji, and Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, the son of infamous pirate Yasopp. The season two teaser also features new characters familiar to fans of the manga and anime.
The main cast is set to return for the second season. New additions include Callum Kerr as Smoker and Lera Abova as Nico Robin, also known as Miss All Sunday. Other newcomers are Charithra Chandran as Miss Wednesday, Brendan Sean Murray as Brogy, Werner Coetser as Dorry, Clive Russell as Crocus, and David Dastmalchian as Mr. 3. Additionally, Jazzara Jaslyn plays Miss Valentine, Daniel Lasker is cast as Mr. 9, Camrus Johnson as Mr. 5, Sophia Anne Caruso as Miss Goldenweek, Mark Penwill as Chess, and Mikaela Hoover lends her voice to Tony Tony Chopper, a blue-nosed reindeer who gains sentience after eating a Devil Fruit and aspires to become a doctor.
The finale of Season 1 depicted Luffy and his crew setting off on their adventure toward the Grand Line. The teaser for Season 2 opens with the Going Merry ship arriving at Reverse Mountain. Viewers are treated to glimpses of Smoker, Baroque Works agent Miss Wednesday, and the iconic Miss All Sunday sporting her trademark hat. Brogy, one of the giants residing at Little Garden, is also featured. The teaser culminates with the Straw Hat Pirates navigating down Reverse Mountain toward Laboon, a colossal blue whale.
Anticipation is high for the second season of One Piece, which is scheduled to premiere on Netflix in 2026.
