According to a report by Bloomberg, Samsung is in talks to integrate Perplexity’s AI assistant into its forthcoming Galaxy S26 smartphone series. This potential partnership could also extend AI functionalities from Perplexity to various Samsung applications, including Samsung Internet and Bixby, the company’s virtual assistant. Notably, Motorola has already formed a similar alliance with Perplexity to incorporate the AI assistant into its devices. Additionally, Apple is reportedly exploring the incorporation of Perplexity as an alternative search engine for Siri, as well as a plugin option, looking to diversify beyond Google and ChatGPT.
Potential Upgrades for Samsung Internet and Bixby
The Bloomberg report cites sources familiar with the discussions, stating that Samsung is nearing an agreement with Perplexity to enhance its smartphones with AI features. If finalized, this deal could see Perplexity becoming the designated AI assistant for the upcoming Galaxy S26 series.
In addition to potentially serving as the default assistant on the Galaxy S26 models, Perplexity’s capabilities may also be embedded within other Samsung applications. The upgrade could bring new enhancements to Bixby, which has seen a decline in performance compared to Google’s virtual assistant. The Samsung Internet browser might also receive access to Perplexity’s advanced search functionalities, according to the report.
Currently, Samsung provides Galaxy smartphone users with a variety of AI-driven features, including its own Galaxy AI suite and Google’s Gemini assistant, along with functionalities like Circle to Search. Should an agreement with Perplexity be reached, Samsung users may gain access to an alternative assistant that can perform similar tasks to the Gemini assistant.
Meanwhile, Apple is said to be considering the integration of Perplexity as a search option for its Safari browser. Historically, Google has held the position of default search engine on Apple devices, but the tech giant appears to be weighing Perplexity as a potential alternative.
Samsung would join the ranks of smartphone manufacturers that collaborate with Perplexity to embed its technology within their devices. Earlier this year, Motorola announced a partnership with the AI firm to offer the Perplexity AI assistant on its smartphones.
The Galaxy S26 series is not anticipated to be unveiled until January 2026, following the company’s typical launch schedule. Therefore, it is advisable to approach these developments with a degree of caution, as further information about Samsung’s upcoming smartphones is expected to emerge in the coming months.
