Samsung is set to introduce a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature in China, enhancing its existing Live Captions tool. According to reports, the new feature, called Voice Captioning, is designed to transcribe live conversations, capture users’ voices through the microphone, and process audio from the phone in real-time. Currently, this functionality is exclusive to China and is integrated within the One UI 8 operating system. Additionally, Voice Captioning is capable of generating real-time captions in various languages.

Samsung’s current Live Caption feature provides real-time transcription of calls in the same language as the conversation. The new Voice Captioning feature appears to expand this capability significantly, allowing users to generate captions for anything they say through the device’s microphone or audio from videos and media files being played.
This advancement enables users to create voiceovers for videos on their devices, with options to generate captions for either the user’s spoken words or the video content itself. Moreover, the capability to generate captions in multiple languages in real-time offers added versatility, although the specific languages supported have not been confirmed by the source. This feature is part of Samsung’s broader Galaxy AI initiatives.
To enhance usability, Voice Captioning can summarize transcriptions in various languages, save transcripts and summaries as Word files, and retain audio for user reference. This feature is currently rolling out with the One UI 8 operating system.
To activate Voice Captioning, users must follow a series of steps. Initially, they need to add the Voice Captioning shortcut to their Quick Settings panel and grant the necessary permissions. They will also have to select preferred languages for translation. The timeline for when this feature will be made available in markets outside of China remains unclear.
