Samsung has announced the introduction of two new features for its Bespoke Smart Refrigerators. The updates, revealed on Wednesday, include a Voice ID function that can recognize individual users by their voice, along with an enhanced method for activating the Bixby assistant. These features will be rolled out through a free over-the-air (OTA) software update for refrigerators equipped with the AI Family Hub and 9-inch AI Home screens, which were launched in 2025. The South Korean technology company also plans to expand these features to additional Bespoke AI refrigerator models later this year.

Samsung’s Bespoke Smart Refrigerators are Set for New Enhancements

In an official press release, Samsung outlined the upcoming features for the 2025 series of its Bespoke Smart Refrigerators. The Voice ID feature functions as a multi-voice recognition system, powered by the Bixby AI assistant. It is capable of identifying users’ voices that have been registered on the refrigerator or through their Galaxy smartphones, allowing the system to apply personalized settings accordingly.

Once a user is identified, the refrigerator can switch to their Samsung account, enabling access to calendar events or images stored within the Gallery app via voice commands. Users also have the option to trigger a notification sound on their smartphone to locate it, even if the device is set to silent mode. Additionally, this feature can synchronize the refrigerator’s display mode based on the user’s settings from their smartphone.

There are certain limitations associated with these features. For instance, voice recognition requires that users have previously registered for a Samsung account on the appliance. Additionally, Voice ID can only be registered using the Samsung Galaxy S24 series or newer models, and it is restricted to languages supported by Bixby.

Furthermore, to access calendar events, they must be created within Google or Microsoft calendars, and the relevant account needs to be synced with the smart appliance via the AI Family Hub. Likewise, the Gallery function will only display images saved in OneDrive cloud storage through the Samsung Gallery app on a compatible Samsung smartphone.

In addition to these enhancements, Samsung has introduced a new method for activating Bixby. Previously, users could activate the assistant either with voice commands or by selecting the Bixby icon on the display when it is on. Now, users can double-tap the screen while it is off to directly access Bixby.

The company has also confirmed that these new features will be made available to Bespoke AI refrigerators with AI Home during the second quarter of this year. It is important to note that AI Home refers to the 7-inch or 9-inch LCD screens on the Bespoke Refrigerators that do not support the AI Family Hub.
