Sony is reportedly set to hold a State of Play presentation next month, anticipated to feature a lineup of its forthcoming games. The last State of Play event took place in May, showcasing 14 games for the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation VR2, including the much-anticipated Astro Bot title. While major first-party announcements may not be imminent, the upcoming broadcast could provide fresh trailers and updates for games that have already been revealed.

Upcoming State of Play Event

This update comes from Jeff Grubb of Giant Bomb, who is known for his accurate insights into the gaming industry. Grubb indicated that Sony is expected to conduct a State of Play event in September, stating, “… there is probably going to be a PlayStation State of Play, not a Showcase, by the end of September,” during the latest episode of the Game Mess Mornings podcast.

The presentation will likely include announcements concerning both first-party and third-party titles. Furthermore, it may serve as the venue for Sony to unveil the PS5 Pro, rumored to be launched by late 2024.

“I don’t know if the PlayStation 5 Pro is in the State of Play, but where else would it be?” Grubb remarked in the podcast.

Anticipation for PS5 Pro

Rumors and leaks about the PS5 Pro have circulated extensively in recent months, with some reports detailing its specifications. Although Sony has yet to officially confirm a Pro version of the PS5, many industry experts are convinced it is forthcoming.

A September State of Play could provide an optimal opportunity for Sony to announce the PS5 Pro ahead of a projected release later this year.

Previous leaks have suggested that the PS5 Pro will feature enhanced system memory, an upgraded CPU clock speed, and a more powerful GPU. Documents mentioned in these leaks indicated that Sony advised developers to emphasize ray-tracing capabilities in games for the PS5 Pro, suggesting substantial improvements in ray-tracing performance. It was also reported that the PS5 Pro’s GPU rendering could be around “45 percent faster than standard PlayStation 5.”

In the meantime, Sony is preparing to launch its next first-party title, Astro Bot, on September 7. This sequel to 2020’s Astro’s Playroom will be a comprehensive game with over six distinct galaxies and more than 80 levels for players to explore.

The game was first revealed during Sony’s last State of Play presentation in May, where the company made multiple announcements about upcoming titles for PS5 and PS VR2, including confirmation of a PC port for God of War Ragnarök.
