Capcom has officially announced that the next installment in the Resident Evil franchise is currently in development. This revelation was made during the publisher’s summer showcase livestream on Tuesday, where it was confirmed that Koshi Nakanishi, the director of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, will lead the project. Although Capcom has not disclosed a specific title, it is anticipated to be Resident Evil 9, following the release of Resident Evil Village in 2021.
Announcement of the Upcoming Resident Evil Game
Nakanishi made a surprise appearance towards the conclusion of the Capcom Next presentation to share the news about the new game. “We’re making a new Resident Evil,” he stated during the broadcast. “It was really difficult to figure out what to do after 7. But I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial,” he remarked.

Highlights from the Capcom Next Showcase
This announcement was part of the Capcom Next showcase, which primarily covered three games published by Capcom. During the livestream, the company also previewed a demo for Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, set to launch on July 19.
In addition, Capcom unveiled plans for a Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, which aims to enhance the gameplay and visuals of the original 2006 Dead Rising game. This remaster is scheduled for release on September 19.
Furthermore, the publisher confirmed that Resident Evil 7 is now available for Apple devices, including iPhone 15 Pro models and all iPad and Mac versions running on Apple’s M-series chips.
Resident Evil Village, the most recent mainline entry in the series, debuted in May 2021 on platforms such as PS4, PS5, Stadia, PC, and Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X. The game was later adapted for iPhone and iPad in late 2022. Capcom recently disclosed that Resident Evil Village has surpassed 10 million units sold globally, achieving this milestone more quickly than any other title in the Resident Evil franchise.
