Capcom announced that the highly anticipated remake of Resident Evil 2 will be available for Apple devices on December 31. The game, a modern reimagining of the original survival-horror title, is now available for pre-order via the App Store. Earlier this year, Capcom revealed plans for its porting efforts, which included Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. The release of Resident Evil 2 will mark the fourth installment from the franchise to be made accessible on Apple devices.

The App Store page indicates that Resident Evil 2 is set for release on December 31. The remake will be compatible with iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16 series, as well as iPads and MacBooks equipped with M1 or newer chipsets. Players will be able to experience an introductory portion of the game for free, although an in-app purchase will be necessary to unlock the complete game.

This version of Resident Evil 2 will feature Universal Purchase, a feature that allows players to access the game across all compatible Apple devices once it has been purchased. However, the App Store listing notes that save data cannot be shared between macOS and iOS devices. The remake is expected to occupy roughly 31GB of storage. Additionally, users should ensure that their device has at least double the installation space available for a smooth setup process. Though touch controls will be supported on the iPad and iPhone, Apple recommends using a controller for optimal gameplay.

Development of Resident Evil 2 for Apple devices was confirmed in June, in conjunction with Capcom’s effort to release more triple-A titles on these platforms. Previously, the company has launched Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil: Village, and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. Other notable titles from gaming giants such as Ubisoft and Hideo Kojima, including Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Death Stranding, have also made their way to Apple devices.

Despite these efforts, reports indicate that the sales performance of these high-profile console games on Apple’s platform has been underwhelming. A report from mobilegamer.biz in June highlighted that the Resident Evil 4 remake achieved 357,000 installs on iPhone, yet only around 7,000 users opted to pay for the full version.

In July, Capcom revealed that they are working on the next installment of the Resident Evil series, which will be directed by Koshi Nakanishi, known for his work on Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.
