Last year, Red Dead Redemption made its way to PS4 and Nintendo Switch with only minor updates from its original release. However, fans have long awaited the introduction of a PC version, which has yet to materialize. Nearly 15 years after its initial debut, there are now indications that Rockstar Games’ iconic title may finally be making the jump to PC, with clues appearing on PlayStation Network.

Teaser for Red Dead Redemption on PC

Industry insider Wario64 has uncovered a mention of the PC version of Red Dead Redemption on the PlayStation Store. In the Game and Legal Info section of the game’s listing, it boldly claims that Red Dead Redemption is “now on PC for the first time ever.”

The discovery was shared by Wario64 on X, accompanied by a screenshot and a link to the PlayStation Store page suggesting an upcoming PC release. The text on the page highlights the opportunity to “experience the epic western adventures that defined a generation — now on PC for the first time ever.”

Further details on the store page outline potential PC enhancements for Red Dead Redemption 2, indicating features like support for higher resolutions and framerates, as well as multi-monitor setups.

“The complete single-player experiences of both games will be included, featuring bonus content from the Game of the Year Edition. The PC version will also come with enhancements such as increased resolutions, higher framerates, support for multiple displays, additional accessories, and spatial surround sound,” states the information provided for the game.

Despite the references to a PC version, the PlayStation Store listing still lists the release date for Red Dead Redemption as August 17, 2023—matching the launch dates for its PS4 and Nintendo Switch counterparts. Additionally, the listing predominantly mentions the PS4 platform. This raises questions about whether the PC reference may simply be an oversight. However, the specific information regarding PC features and 2023 console upgrades suggests that a PC launch is plausible.

As of now, Rockstar Games has yet to officially confirm a PC release for Red Dead Redemption.

Red Dead Redemption on PS4 and Nintendo Switch

Originally launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2010, Red Dead Redemption was subsequently ported to PS4 and Nintendo Switch last year. This latest iteration lacked significant enhancements, operating at 30 fps on both Nintendo Switch and PS4 at its release. The port, carried out by Double Eleven Studios, supported 1080p resolution on both systems and went up to 4K resolution on the PS4 Pro and PS5 via backward compatibility. Notably, the new release did not include multiplayer functionality.

A patch released in October 2023 introduced support for 60fps on the PS5. Currently, Red Dead Redemption is accessible across PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch consoles.

The narrative follows former outlaw John Marston, who is coerced into hunting down his former gang members by the government. Celebrated as one of the greatest video games of all time, Red Dead Redemption also inspired the prequel, Red Dead Redemption 2, released in 2018.
