Sony has officially confirmed that the slimmer version of its PlayStation 5 console, which debuted in the United States in November 2022, will launch in India on April 5. Both the disc and digital editions of the PS5 slim will be available at selected retailers across the country this week.
The PS5 slim, designed to be lighter and more compact than the original, maintains the signature PlayStation design while incorporating a detachable disc drive and slightly enhanced storage capacity.
The company has announced that the pricing for the PS5 slim will mirror that of the current PS5 models in India. The disc version will retail for Rs. 54,990, while the digital variant is priced at Rs. 44,990. Customers opting for the digital edition will have the option to purchase the disc drive separately.
Starting April 5, the PS5 slim will be available through both online and offline retailers, including Sony’s ShopatSC website, Amazon, Flipkart, Games The Shop, and various other participating outlets.
Sony updated its PS5 lineup in October 2022 by unveiling a slimmer redesign that features largely the same hardware specifications as its predecessor. This redesign has led to a reduction in size by over 30 percent and a weight decrease of up to 24 percent compared to the standard PS5.

This newer variant offers increased internal storage, expanding from the original PS5’s 825GB custom SSD to a full 1TB. Customers who choose the digital edition also have the option to add an external UHD Blu-ray disc drive.
Despite the physical changes, the PS5 slim retains the same processing power and graphical capabilities as the original model. Furthermore, reports indicate that Sony is preparing to launch a “Pro” version of the PS5 later this year, as the current console generation approaches its mid-cycle. Analysts noted in February that the company aims to have an updated PS5 Pro ready by the time Rockstar Games releases Grand Theft Auto 6, expected in 2025.
Leaked details regarding the PS5 Pro suggest it could feature 45 percent faster rendering capabilities and up to three times the compute power, boasting 33.5 teraflops of single-precision compute power compared to the PS5’s 10.28 teraflops.
