The PlayStation 5 has long been praised for its sleek user interface, but until recently, users had limited options for personalisation. This changed with a system update released in September, which introduced the ability for players to customise their PS5 home screens. Now, Sony has announced an exciting new feature update that allows for even greater customisation, focusing on themes and sound options that pay tribute to the PlayStation legacy. Users can select different designs for their console interface, reflecting various generations of PlayStation consoles.
Introducing New Themes for PS5
As part of the celebrations for PlayStation’s 30th anniversary on December 3, Sony has unveiled a new feature for the PS5 that enables users to modify the console’s look and sound. Players can now choose themes inspired by the original PlayStation, PS2, PS3, PS4, and a special 30th anniversary theme.
These themes include unique visual styles, colour palettes, and audio cues that enhance the home screen and menus of the PS5, effectively echoing the aesthetics associated with each console generation. Notably, the PS5 will also boot up with the classic start-up screen and sound of the PS1, alongside the 30th anniversary logo.

According to Gadgets 360, this update is now accessible to PS5 users in India. Upon starting the console, users receive a notification about the 30th anniversary of PlayStation, accompanied by details regarding the latest update.
The notification states, “3 December 2024 marks the anniversary of the launch of PlayStation 30 years ago.”
It continues, “To celebrate the 30th anniversary of PlayStation, for a limited time, we’ve added a few touches to take you on a journey through PlayStation’s history.”
Users are encouraged to join in the celebration by choosing a design from previous console generations, with the option to revert to the standard PS5 design if desired.

The PS5 settings menu now features a dedicated 30th anniversary section, allowing users to explore appearance and audio themes that pay homage to PlayStation’s storied history. However, these customisation options will only be available for a limited time.
Previously, in September, Sony had implemented a system update that introduced a Welcome Hub to the PS5 home screen, enabling users to select and arrange various widgets, alter the background image, and more.
