A trailer for the upcoming Fallout TV series has been released, offering a peek into its irradiated, post-apocalyptic setting. The trailer was unveiled at the Comic-Con Expo (CCXP) in Brazil and reveals an original storyline set in a crumbling Los Angeles. The show expands on the universe established by the Bethesda games, creating new narratives rather than adapting existing ones. Central to the plot is a vault dweller who ventures into the nuclear wasteland in search of answers, encountering a variety of unique characters along the way. The series will explore themes of class conflict, morality, and the challenges of survival in a harsh environment. Fallout is set to debut on April 12 on Amazon Prime Video.
The trailer features Lucy, played by Ella Purnell, as she emerges from her underground refuge, Vault 33. The circumstances prompting her departure remain unclear, but images from the vault suggest a violent incident, likely a consequence of the social experiments regularly executed by Vault-Tec Corporation. This narrative unfolds 200 years following a nuclear catastrophe, which left affluent individuals to take shelter in advanced underground facilities while the less fortunate faced dire consequences from radiation exposure. The trailer vividly illustrates this desolation through sweeping visuals of barren landscapes, crumbling buildings, and the infamous radroaches—massive mutated cockroaches. A voiceover warns Lucy that “vault dwellers are an endangered species,” highlighting the dramatic changes that have taken place since the bombs were dropped.
In addition to Lucy, the series introduces two key characters: Cooper Howard and Maximus. Cooper, played by Walton Goggins, is a Ghoul—a mutated human with the appearance of a noseless zombie—who lives life as a charming cowboy, alongside Dogmeat, the beloved German Shepherd seen briefly in the trailer. Maximus, portrayed by Aaron Moten, is an aspiring soldier raised by the Brotherhood of Steel, a militant faction seeking to prove his worth amidst fears of being sidelined. The trailer also showcases intense action, including scenes of the Ghoul engaging in gunfight at a Western saloon, automated weaponry targeting civilians, and a chaotic shot of a Vault 33 dweller with a fork lodged in her eye. Additionally, fans get a glimpse of a Yao Guai—a mutated bear—thrashing through heavy power armor and a cyclops resident of the vault played by Chris Parnell.
Other notable cast members include Kyle MacLachlan as Lucy’s father, Hank, alongside Moisés Arias, Sarita Choudhury, Michael Emerson, and Zach Cherry. The series is crafted by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, the creators of Westworld, who are also executive producers alongside game director Todd Howard. Nolan directs the first three episodes, continuing their collaboration with Amazon Studios, which previously canceled the science-fiction show Peripheral after its inaugural season.
Fans can catch the premiere of Fallout on April 12, 2024, exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
