Perplexity is reportedly considering partnership avenues to enhance the reach of its artificial intelligence (AI) assistant. Sources indicate that the company is currently in discussions with both Motorola, a subsidiary of Lenovo, and Samsung to incorporate the virtual assistant into their devices. An announcement regarding the collaboration with Motorola may come soon, while talks with Samsung remain ongoing.

Perplexity’s Partnership With Motorola Could Be Announced This Month

A report from Bloomberg suggests that Perplexity is aiming to boost the uptake of its Assistant through integration with devices from Samsung and Motorola. According to anonymous sources familiar with the negotiations, an agreement with Motorola has been reached and may be publicly announced in April.

Interestingly, Motorola is set to host a product launch event in New York City on April 24, where both companies might formally unveil their partnership. Specifics of the agreement and its financial implications have not yet been disclosed.

Meanwhile, the partnership with Samsung is still under negotiation. The two companies are reportedly evaluating various options for their collaboration, including potential scenarios where the Perplexity Assistant could serve as the default AI assistant or be pre-installed on Samsung devices. Furthermore, Samsung is also considering how to promote the app within the Galaxy Store.

While pre-installing the app or featuring it in the app marketplace would be relatively uncomplicated, designating Perplexity as the default assistant presents challenges for Samsung, particularly due to its existing alliance with Google.

Google, based in Mountain View, California, provides numerous AI-driven functionalities for Samsung devices. One such feature, Circle to Search, made its debut with the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, developed by Google.

Integrating the Perplexity Assistant as the primary virtual assistant could jeopardize Samsung’s relationship with Google, which is also striving to promote its Gemini AI assistant to a broader audience.
