OpenAI officially launched the full version of its o1 artificial intelligence (AI) model on Thursday, moving beyond the earlier preview phase. The tech company asserts that the new model is capable of performing tasks that were previously unachievable with the o1-preview, boasting enhanced speed in response times and improved clarity in its outputs. The o1 AI model is set to be accessible to all paid ChatGPT subscribers. Additionally, OpenAI introduced a new subscription plan known as ChatGPT Pro, which provides expanded access to its premier models and tools.

These latest developments are part of OpenAI’s “12 days of OpenAI” initiative, where the company plans to unveil new updates each day through a series of live streams. On the first day, OpenAI announced via X (formerly Twitter) that its advanced reasoning-oriented o1 AI model is now fully operational and available within ChatGPT.
Detailing the enhancements in the full version, OpenAI highlighted that the o1 model offers quicker response generation and superior performance in areas such as coding, mathematics, and writing tasks. Another significant update is its ability to process and respond to uploaded images; for example, users can share a picture of a birdhouse and request a comprehensive construction manual based on that image.
During internal evaluations, OpenAI found that the o1 model decreased major errors in complex real-world queries by 34 percent when compared to the o1-preview. This new model serves as a replacement for the o1-preview and is accessible to ChatGPT Plus and Team subscribers through the model selector option. Users in the Enterprise and Edu categories will have access to the model within the coming week.
Looking ahead, OpenAI indicated plans to incorporate web browsing capabilities and file upload tools into the o1 model within ChatGPT. Moreover, the company aims to make the large language model (LLM) available via its application programming interface (API), along with features such as function calling, developer messaging, Structured Outputs, and visual inputs.
In a blog post, OpenAI also introduced the ChatGPT Pro subscription, which will grant users unlimited access to the company’s most advanced models, including o1, o1-mini, GPT-4o, and the Advanced Voice tool. The Pro subscription features the new o1 pro mode, an upgraded version designed to provide enhanced solutions to complex questions by leveraging additional processing power.
The ChatGPT Pro subscription is priced at $200 (approximately Rs. 16,900) monthly, making it nearly ten times more expensive than the Plus subscription, which is priced at Rs. 1,950 in India. OpenAI clarified that this subscription targets researchers, engineers, and individuals who require access to research-grade AI intelligence.
