The OnePlus 13s is scheduled for release in India on June 5, with the company recently introducing OnePlus AI, its innovative artificial intelligence suite for devices. Alongside this development, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer also showcased the functionalities of the new Plus Key, which will make its debut on the OnePlus 13s. This hardware button is designed for multiple utility features and will provide access to several AI tools, including the AI Plus Mind feature that enables users to quickly save, organize, and retrieve on-device content.
OnePlus 13s to Launch with ‘AI Plus Mind’ Feature
The OnePlus AI branding serves as an overarching term for the various AI functionalities integrated into the company’s devices, akin to offerings from competitors like Galaxy AI and Apple Intelligence. Notably, OnePlus began incorporating AI capabilities into its products with the introduction of the OxygenOS 15 update.
The first feature released under the OnePlus AI umbrella is the AI Plus Mind. This tool allows users to swiftly save any on-screen information in the form of screenshots. Users can subsequently access this information through the Mind Space tool, employing natural language queries to retrieve saved content. While reminiscent of Microsoft’s Recall feature, it requires manual activation by the user.
OnePlus emphasized that the AI Plus Mind feature goes beyond merely capturing screenshots; it can analyze images using computer vision. For instance, it can extract scheduling details from an image and seamlessly add them to the user’s calendar. Furthermore, the feature is set to introduce automatic categorization of saved content later this year.
Initially, the AI Plus Mind feature will be exclusive to the OnePlus 13s, with plans to roll it out to the entire OnePlus 13 series via an over-the-air (OTA) update.
In addition to AI functionalities, OnePlus announced that its first-party applications will integrate with Google’s Gemini. This advancement enables users to engage the Gemini AI assistant to perform tasks across apps such as OnePlus Notes and Clock. However, the company has not yet provided a timeline for the release of this integration.
Earlier this year, Oppo introduced the Private Computing Cloud (PCC), a more secure method for users to share data with cloud-based AI tools. It employs encryption and trusted execution environment (TEE) measures to ensure data safety while stored in the cloud. OnePlus has confirmed its intention to implement PCC for select OnePlus AI features.
Furthermore, OnePlus has provided details about the Plus Key functionalities. This customizable hardware button, which replaces the traditional alert slider, can be programmed to perform various actions, such as switching sound profiles, launching the camera, or starting recordings. Additionally, it will facilitate access to the new AI Plus Mind feature, as well as the existing AI translations feature.
