On Thursday, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani engaged in a fireside chat during the Nvidia AI Summit India. Their conversation centered around Nvidia’s artificial intelligence (AI) initiative and strategy for the Indian market. Huang announced a collaborative effort between Reliance and Nvidia to establish and enhance AI infrastructure across India. They emphasized India’s vast pool of computer engineers as a crucial asset in the global AI landscape.

Following Huang’s keynote which provided insights into the company’s technological advancements in India and its future AI plans, he welcomed Ambani for a discussion.
Ambani linked Nvidia to “Vidya,” the Hindi term for knowledge, affirming Reliance’s ambition to create a premier large language model (LLM) in Hindi. He described the company’s guiding principles as igniting a knowledge revolution that would contribute to an intelligence revolution, reinforcing the notion that India is on the cusp of an intelligence era.
Huang then inquired how Nvidia and Reliance could facilitate India’s transformation from an IT hub to the world’s centre for AI.
Ambani responded, “This is a new aspirational India. We are among the few nations where the average age is under 35. The Prime Minister’s vision has been vital in fostering on-ground progress. Indians are brimming with talent, and over the years, India has become a home for many diverse companies. Global energy leaders are now innovating here, positioning us as a rapidly emerging innovation centre.”
He further expressed Reliance’s dedication to advancing connectivity infrastructure, including 4G, 5G, and broadband networks. “Despite not starting in this arena, we have become the largest data company globally,” he noted. Huang concurred, recognizing India’s vast market potential as a significant asset for businesses operating within the country.
Discussing future initiatives towards a nation focused on AI, Huang confirmed the partnership between Nvidia and Reliance Industries to develop comprehensive AI infrastructure in India, although specifics about the collaboration were not disclosed during the discussion.
Reflecting on his previous meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Huang shared that the PM emphasized the importance of India retaining its data and not exporting it for foreign intelligence. “PM Modi mentioned that India should not export flour to import bread,” Huang recounted, adding that he was invited to advise the Prime Minister’s cabinet on AI technologies.
Ambani also expressed appreciation for Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, praising the company’s contributions to AI. He noted that the release of open-source AI models by Meta has enabled Indian businesses to build on a solid foundation and effectively compete on a global scale.
Huang underscored the benefits brought by India’s population and robust community of computer scientists. He called it a remarkable period, indicating that India possesses the necessary components—native advantages, an abundance of data poised for conversion into intelligence, and a supportive tech industry—to spearhead an intelligence revolution.
