Sony conducted its anticipated State of Play showcase early on Friday, unveiling several updates regarding forthcoming titles for both PS5 and PS VR2. The event included news on previously announced games along with several exciting new reveals. Among the highlights, Team Asobi confirmed its work on a sequel to Astro’s Playroom, titled Astro Bot, which is expected to debut later this year on PS5. The showcase also presented new trailers for live service shooter Concorde and acclaimed horror games Until Dawn and Silent Hill 2.
The State of Play event marks the beginning of the summer segment of video game showcases, where major studios and publishers share updates on upcoming games and new releases. Following this event, Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest is set to commence on June 7, with the Xbox Games Showcase following on June 9. While Sony did not reveal any projects from its prominent studios, the State of Play offered a multitude of intriguing announcements for the year ahead. God of War Ragnarok to Launch on PC
God of War Ragnarok is the latest major PlayStation title making its way to PC. Released for PS5 and PS4 in 2022 by Santa Monica Studio, the game will be available on PC starting September 19, 2024. The port is being developed in collaboration with Jetpack Interactive, the team responsible for the PC adaptation of God of War (2018).
The announcement came alongside a trailer that confirmed several PC-specific enhancements including unlocked framerates, support for Nvidia DLSS 3.7, AMD FSR 3.1, and Intel XeSS 1.3 upscaling techniques, as well as compatibility with ultra-wide monitors. In addition, the PC version will feature last year’s Valhalla DLC.
Astro Bot Sequel Revealed
Team Asobi is set to release a sequel to Astro’s Playroom, the pre-installed 3D platformer on PS5 that demonstrated new DualSense controller features. Titled Astro Bot, this game promises a more expansive “space adventure” where players can explore six galaxies and over 80 levels in search of Astro’s crew.
The announcement featured an extensive gameplay trailer showcasing a variety of environments and new gameplay mechanics. Astro Bot is slated to launch on September 6 as a PS5 exclusive, with pre-orders commencing on June 7.
New Trailers for Concord
Firewalk Studios presented a new trailer for Concord, its forthcoming multiplayer shooter, highlighting gameplay mechanics, game world, and the unique abilities of its characters. First teased last year, Concord will be a 5v5 multiplayer shooter reminiscent of titles like Overwatch and Valorant.
This live service title is scheduled for release on both PS5 and PC on August 23, 2024, with a beta test planned prior to the official launch.
Silent Hill 2 Remake Update
The remake of Silent Hill 2 received an update during the showcase, which included a new trailer and revealed its release date. This psychological survival horror game, originally announced in 2022, is set to be launched on PS5 and PC on October 8. The trailer displayed additional combat sequences, and the game is now available for pre-order.
Following the State of Play presentation, Konami hosted a Silent Hill Transmission livestream, offering more insights on various Silent Hill projects and showcasing 13 minutes of gameplay footage from the Silent Hill 2 remake.
Until Dawn Remaster Announced
State of Play also highlighted a trailer for Until Dawn, which is being remastered for both PS5 and PC. Although a specific release date was not provided, the remaster is confirmed to be released in Fall 2024.
The newly released gameplay trailer showcased significant visual enhancements for the remaster. Originally developed by Supermassive Games, Until Dawn debuted on PS4 in 2015.
Dynasty Warriors: Origins Announced
A new installment in the Dynasty Warriors series titled Dynasty Warriors: Origins was revealed at the State of Play. The trailer featured large-scale battles and showcased the game’s hack-and-slash combat style. This title is expected to be available on PS5 sometime next year.
Monster Hunter Wilds Trailer Revealed
Monster Hunter Wilds received a fresh trailer during the showcase, revealing stunning environments and insights into various game monsters. Although it lacks a specific release date, the action-RPG is anticipated to launch sometime in 2025.
