The upcoming title Pokémon Legends: Z-A, part of Game Freak’s cherished Pokémon franchise, was showcased with a new trailer during the Pokémon Presents event on Thursday. While the trailer detailed the game’s environment and offered insights into its gameplay mechanics, it did not mention a specific release date. Pokémon Legends: Z-A is anticipated to be available on the Nintendo Switch in late 2025. The Pokémon Company also previewed Pokémon Champions, a combat-centric game designed for both the Switch and mobile devices.
Insights from the Pokémon Legends Z-A Trailer
The latest trailer for Pokémon Legends: Z-A unveiled more of its Paris-inspired location, Lumiose City. Players will have the choice of three starter Pokémon: Chikorita, Tepig, or Totodile.
Traditionally, Pokémon games employ turn-based combat. However, Pokémon Legends: Z-A will innovate with real-time battles, allowing Trainers and their Pokémon to move fluidly while executing their commands in real-time. Although a precise release date is yet to be announced, the game is confirmed for a late 2025 launch.
Introduction of Pokémon Champions
Additionally, The Pokémon Company introduced Pokémon Champions during the presentation. This title focuses on battles and will be available on both Nintendo Switch and mobile platforms.
Pokémon Champions incorporates well-known battling mechanics, enabling players to use classic Pokémon from Pokémon HOME. The game is designed to offer multiple modes and supports cross-platform play, allowing battles between users on the Switch and mobile devices. Currently, Pokémon Champions is under development for Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS, but no release date has been specified.
The Pokémon Presents event, which coincided with Pokémon Day celebrations, also highlighted updates and news on existing Pokémon titles and related projects. Fans can expect a variety of new in-game events for Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. Further updates were shared for Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, Pokémon TCG, the Netflix series Pokémon Concierge, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Sleep, and Pokémon Unite, among others.
In a significant move, The Pokémon Company announced that future releases in the popular series will now include localization in Latin American Spanish.
