Elon Musk, owner of X, and Chief Executive Linda Yaccarino are set to take the helm of the trust and safety team at the social media platform that was previously known as Twitter, the company announced on Monday.
The product and engineering divisions will directly report to Musk, while Yaccarino will oversee other essential departments, including human resources, legal, finance, sales, and operations, according to X’s statement.
The trust and safety team, tasked with content moderation, has faced scrutiny following Musk’s acquisition of the company in October. Critics, including researchers, have alleged that X has eased its content regulations, leading to an increase in harmful posts. However, the company asserts that most content viewed on the platform is considered “healthy.”
In a communication to employees shared with Reuters, Yaccarino informed staff that the company is in the process of appointing a new leader for brand safety and suitability.
The former head of brand safety, A.J. Brown, who was responsible for ensuring that advertisements did not appear alongside inappropriate content, departed from the organization last month.
Yaccarino’s message also detailed that three senior leaders at X are set to manage various aspects of trust and safety, including operations related to law enforcement and addressing threats.
These organizational changes in the trust and safety team come after Ella Irwin’s resignation from the role in June.
