Microsoft has announced that Copilot Vision, its AI-driven assistant feature capable of interpreting on-screen content, is now available free of charge within the Edge browser. Mustafa Suleyman, CEO of Microsoft AI, shared this update via a post on Bluesky.

According to Suleyman, users who enable this feature will allow Copilot Vision to essentially “see” what they are viewing on their screens. He highlighted a few practical applications, such as using the assistant to follow a cooking recipe or to analyze job descriptions for tailored interview preparation and cover letter writing. However, caution is advised regarding reliance on AI for important documents like resumes.

While the overarching benefits of Copilot Vision are accessible in the Edge browser for all users, advanced features are still exclusive to Copilot Pro subscribers. This subscription expands the functionality of Vision to include assistance with programs like Photoshop or in navigating video editing tools, and even gaming experiences such as Minecraft.

Individuals interested in trying Copilot Vision can do so by following a link to Microsoft’s official site while using the Edge browser. This will prompt them to opt into the feature, and once granted permission, they can initiate a session via the Copilot sidebar by clicking the microphone icon, indicated by a chime and a change in browser color.

However, users may encounter challenges while attempting to access the feature. For instance, one user reported needing multiple attempts before Edge prompted them to enable the feature. Even after successful activation, the controls failed to appear, leaving them stuck on a message reading “One moment…” due to their older laptop’s performance limitations.

Microsoft states that while it logs the responses from Copilot, the company does not collect user inputs, images, or any webpage content during Copilot Vision sessions. Users can end their session or close the browser if they wish to stop sharing their screen at any time.
