Microsoft has launched a new feature called Copilot Shopping, enhancing in-app product discovery and purchasing for users. This initiative from the Redmond-based company will be accessible via the Copilot app on both mobile and web platforms, with potential integration into desktop applications on AI-enabled PCs in the future. The AI-driven e-commerce tool promises to provide users with product reviews, price comparisons from various platforms, and the ability to monitor price drops.

Details about Copilot Shopping were shared in a post on X, previously known as Twitter, through the official Microsoft Copilot account. This launch follows Google’s introduction of similar AI shopping features in Search, as well as developments from OpenAI in ChatGPT. A report from TestingCatalog indicated that Microsoft began testing this feature last month.

Positioned as a comprehensive shopping assistant, Copilot Shopping supports users throughout their purchasing journey—from discovering products to completing checkout. This feature was first introduced during Microsoft’s 50th-anniversary event and includes alerts for pricing changes, tailored suggestions based on user inquiries, and curated product lists tailored to individual needs.

To utilize the new feature, users can interact with the AI chatbot to inquire about specific products or to seek recommendations. They can also pose complex questions, such as, “I’ve just started running as a hobby. What are some accessories I should have?” In response, Copilot curates relevant product options, displaying them as interactive visual cards.

The feature further includes user-generated reviews, pros and cons, and concise summaries that detail the technical specifications and ideal users for each product. Upon selecting a preferred item, Copilot presents multiple online retailers offering it, alongside their respective prices. Should users choose the lowest priced option, they can proceed to checkout directly, while also having the option to initiate price tracking if the current price is unsatisfactory.

With the price tracking functionality, Microsoft reveals the recent price fluctuations of the selected product. Users can adjust a horizontal slider to set their desired price, and Copilot will notify them when the product becomes available at that rate. Once they receive the alert, they can complete their purchase directly through the app.
