Microsoft has introduced a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature in its Bing mobile application. On Monday, the technology firm based in Redmond unveiled a text-to-video generator tool named Bing Video Creator, powered by OpenAI’s Sora. This feature will be accessible to all users at no cost, marking the first occasion that Sora’s video generation capabilities are available for free. Previously, OpenAI had limited access to this AI model to its paid subscribers. Currently, the feature is not offered on desktop platforms or within Copilot Search.
Microsoft Is Offering Sora’s Video Generation for Free
In a blog post, Microsoft shared that the Bing AI Video Creator tool is now integrated into the Bing mobile apps. This new addition follows the introduction of Copilot Search in Bing, which was rolled out in April.
Users can access the Bing Video Creator feature by selecting the menu button located at the bottom right of the app’s home screen. Under the “All apps” section, the Video Creator option will be displayed. By tapping this option, users will be directed to a new page where they can enter a prompt describing the desired video. Following this, Sora will process the input and generate the video.
There are two modes for video generation: standard and fast. Microsoft is providing 10 fast generations free of charge to all users. After reaching this limit, users will need to spend 100 Microsoft Reward points for each subsequent fast generation, while standard generation will remain completely free. According to a TechCrunch report, even in the fast mode, the video generation process can take hours. Users will receive a notification once their video is ready.
The AI-generated videos on Microsoft Bing are five seconds long and are formatted in 9:16. The company plans to introduce a 16:9 format soon, but no other aspect ratios are currently available. Additionally, users can create a queue of up to three videos at once. If all three slots are filled, they must wait until one video generation is completed before starting a new one.
Launched in December 2024, OpenAI’s Sora had previously been restricted to paid subscribers of ChatGPT. With this latest update, Microsoft Bing stands out as the first and only platform to provide free access to this video generation feature.
