In its latest India Monthly Report, Meta’s Facebook addressed approximately 45 percent of user complaints, while Instagram managed to resolve 64 percent of user grievances in March 2023.
The report reveals category-specific actions taken by Meta. On Facebook, the platform acted on only about 8 percent of complaints related to hacked accounts, with resolutions for 22 percent of inappropriate or abusive content and 23 percent concerning bullying or harassment instances.
Furthermore, Facebook responded to less than 25 percent of complaints regarding content deemed to represent users in nudity or sexual situations.
From a total of 7,193 grievances, Facebook provided users with tools for resolution in 1,903 cases.
Meta noted that within the remaining 5,290 reports requiring specialized review, it evaluated content in line with its policies and took action on a total of 1,300 reports. However, specific details concerning the nature of these 1,300 reports were not disclosed.
In addition to addressing user complaints, Facebook independently took action against nearly 38 million pieces of content that violated community guidelines. The majority of these interactions fell into three categories: 32 million instances of spam, 2.4 million violations related to adult nudity and sexual activity, and 2.2 million categorized as violent or graphic content.
In contrast, Instagram demonstrated a higher level of compliance, addressing around 64 percent of user complaints. Out of 9,226 grievances submitted, Instagram acted on 5,936 incidents.
The Instagram platform also offered users tools for issue resolution in 4,280 cases. Notably, it addressed 98.57 percent of situations where content showcased the reporter without their consent.
Instagram resolved 84 percent of the 465 complaints concerning nudity or sexual content. However, grievances related to hacked accounts received the least attention.
From the remaining 4,946 reports requiring specialized review, Instagram reviewed content as per its policies, leading to action on a total of 1,656 reports, although the specifics of these cases were not disclosed.
Additionally, Instagram independently took action against roughly 3 million pieces of content, with the most common violations stemming from categories of adult nudity and sexual activity, violent and graphic content, and bullying or harassment.
Meta also noted receiving only one order from the Grievances Appellate Committee (GAC), an organization that reviews complaints from users dissatisfied with the resolutions offered by social media platforms.
