Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg has unveiled a new initiative termed “Meta Superintelligence Labs” aimed at enhancing the company’s artificial intelligence capabilities, according to a memo shared with employees. Bloomberg has reported.
To lead this new division, Meta has appointed Alexandr Wang, the former CEO of Scale AI, who recently joined the company through a substantial acquisition deal. Nat Friedman, the former CEO of GitHub, will collaborate with Wang in a leadership role within the group, as noted by Bloomberg. In addition, Meta has hired 11 new employees specializing in AI, with experience from prominent organizations including Anthropic, Google DeepMind, and OpenAI.
Zuckerberg has reportedly been extending lucrative compensation packages—approaching eight figures—to attract top talent amid increasing competition in the AI sector. According to Technology News’s Alex Heath, Meta has explored potential acquisitions of companies such as Mira Murati’s Thinking Machines Lab, Perplexity, and Ilya Sutskever’s Safe Superintelligence, although these discussions have not advanced to formal proposals for various reasons.
In the memo, Zuckerberg articulated the company’s intentions to initiate research on the next generation of AI models, aiming to position Meta at the forefront of the technology within the coming year. This memo has been published in its entirety by CNBC.
